The desire of Jesus was for His disciples to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit in them. This was only available to them after Jesus was glorified and they could become born again. Many in the modern church have learned a relationship with the Holy Spirit through spiritual experiences and gifts, but have yet to truly establish Him working in them. The time with the Holy Spirit always benefits the inner man and starves the outer man.
